오아시스, 2025 재결합 투어에 '리처드 애쉬크로프트' 합류 공식 발표

오아시스(@oasis)가 2025년 영국 및 아일랜드 재결합 투어에서 브릿팝의 전성기를 함께 이끈 더 버브(The Verve)의 프론트맨 리처드 애쉬크로프트(Richard Ashcroft)를 메인 서포트 아티스트로 공식 발표했다.

리처드 애쉬크로프트가 이끄는 더 버브는 1990년대 브릿팝을 대표하는 밴드로, ’Bitter Sweet Symphony‘로 세계적인 인기를 얻었다. 독창적인 사운드와 감성적인 가사로 사랑받았으며, 1997년 앨범 ‘Urban Hymns’는 영국 차트 1위에 오르며 10배 플래티넘을 기록했고, 더 버브는 오아시스와 함께 브릿팝의 전성기를 이끌었다.

오아시스와 리처드 애쉬크로프트의 인연은 1993년 두 밴드가 신인 시절 함께 공연한 이후 지속적으로 이어져 왔다. 특히 오아시스의 대표곡 ‘Cast No Shadow’는 리처드 애쉬크로프트에게서 영감을 받은 곡으로 널리 알려져 있으며, 그는 ’Be Here Now‘ 앨범의 ‘All Around The World’에서도 백킹 보컬로 참여했다.

또한 리처드 애쉬크로프트는 이전에도 1995년 파리 공연과 2018년 리암 갤러거(Liam Gallagher)의 핀스버리 파크 공연에서 서포트 아티스트로 무대에 오른 바 있다.

리암 갤러거는 최근 X(구 트위터)에서 리처드 애쉬크로프트의 참여를 암시하며 ”그가 함께한다면 성경적(BIBLICAL)“이라며 팬들의 기대감을 높였다. 리처드 애쉬크로프트는 이번 투어에 대해 “오아시스의 음악은 내 창작에 큰 영감을 주었다”며 ”다시 함께할 날을 고대했다“고 밝혔다.

오아시스의 투어는 2025년 7월 카디프에서 시작해 맨체스터, 런던, 에든버러, 더블린 등에서 진행될 예정이며, 아직 아시아 투어 일정은 공개되지 않은 상태. 리처드 애쉬크로프트가 다른 대륙 투어에도 동행할지는 지켜봐야 할 부분이다.

The Verve, led by Richard Ashcroft, was one of the iconic Britpop bands of the 1990s, gaining worldwide popularity with “Bitter Sweet Symphony.” Known for their unique sound and emotional lyrics, The Verve was widely loved. Their 1997 album Urban Hymns reached No. 1 on the UK charts, achieving 10x Platinum status, and The Verve, along with Oasis, helped define the peak of Britpop.

The connection between Oasis and Richard Ashcroft dates back to 1993 when both bands were newcomers and performed together, and their relationship has continued ever since. Oasis’s classic song “Cast No Shadow” is widely known to have been inspired by Richard Ashcroft, and he also provided backing vocals on the song “All Around The World” from the Be Here Now album.

In addition, Richard Ashcroft previously appeared as a support artist at Oasis's Paris concert in 1995 and Liam Gallagher’s show at Finsbury Park in 2018. Liam Gallagher recently hinted at Ashcroft's involvement on X (formerly Twitter), raising fans' excitement by saying, “If he joins us, it’ll be biblical.”

Richard Ashcroft commented on the tour, saying, “Oasis’s music has been a huge inspiration for my own creations,” adding that he “has been looking forward to joining them again.” Oasis's tour will kick off in Cardiff in July 2025 and continue in Manchester, London, Edinburgh, Dublin, and more. Asian tour dates have yet to be announced, and it remains to be seen if Richard Ashcroft will join them for the other continents.
